In Mathura, the birthplace of Krishna, Mathura ke pede is the favorite offering. These are made by cooking together with fresh mawa, milk, sugar, and ghee with cardamom powder for added flavor.
Traditionally and in the authentic recipe for these delicious pedas, Bhura is made separately and mava is roasted separately and then they both are mixed together to form a soft dough to be made into pedas, the pedas are then again rolled in the Bhura.
In India Janmashtami holiday is considered incomplete without the taste of Peda. Every year on this day Peda is prepared to offer to Lord Krishna and breaking the fast.

Ghee - 2 tbsp
Milk - 1/2 cup if needed
Elaichi(cardamom) powder - 2 tsp
Method
Grate the Mava or crumble it into small lumps.
In a heavy bottom pan roast Mawa stirring continuously, not letting it stick at the bottom of the pan.
Whenever Mawa changes its color when you roast, add little Ghee or milk. Stir and fry till Mawa's color turns brown.
Once the color changes to a deep brown, close the gas. Let the mava cool slightly and then add the bhuri/tagar, leaving aside about 1/2 cup for garnishing.
Mix well and roll to form small balls. Now roll the peda balls in the Bhuri that we had kept aside.
Repeat for the entire mixture. Say a little prayer and enjoy it!
